THE OLD OUTLAW
The Old Outlaw
Raised as the child of a Moluccan K.N.I.L. soldier and his wife who, like thousands of others, crossed over to the Netherlands in 1951, Macklin has Haurissa, just like his Moluccan contemporaries, experienced a lot. Like his parents, he always felt misunderstood. After he shared his personal story with the interview platform Tjenkeh & Pala, the idea came up to write a book about. Not out of vanity, but because his story is exemplary for many Moluccan young people from the second generation and their parents.
By telling his personal story he wants the generations of his children and grandchildren indicate the consequences of choices made and what is a better way to make choices. During the writing process together with his ghostwriter Kaituhi Wairuha the writer went deep, because this is the only way to get to the truth. The story is raw, straightforward and written without sparing anyone (including themselves). Macklin: 'Our stories need to be told. So that our posterity can tell better stories.' Macklin Haurissa (January 29, 1959) was born in Vught. He currently gives lectures at schools.
